#  Global Standards Representative – North America (USA, Canada and Mexico)

Global [Standards](https://global-standards.org/resources/glossary/standard "<p>standard glossary text</p>") gGmbH is a self-funded non-profit organisation registered in Germany, dedicated to the development and implementation of Voluntary [Sustainability](https://global-standards.org/resources/glossary/sustainability "<p>In 1987, the United Nations Brundtland Commission defined sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”</p>") Standards for the textile industry currently through their Global [Organic](https://global-standards.org/resources/glossary/organic "<p>'Organic' is a regulated term used to distinguish systems of managed production and products derived therefrom that adhere to principles of health, ecology, fairness and care, and which are certified compliant to an organic standard's regulations by an Approved Certification Body. <br>GOTS defines organic textiles as being made with fibres from organic agriculture systems that are certified to one of the IFOAM Family of Standards, and that are processed in socially and ecologically responsible ways, in alignment with organic principles.</p>") Textile Standard ([GOTS](https://global-standards.org/resources/glossary/gots "<p>The worldwide leading voluntary sustainability standard for the post-harvest textile value chain for certified organic fibres, covering environmental criteria, human rights, social criteria and business conduct.</p>")). The organisation is in the process of developing a second sustainability standard for textiles. Our work focuses on contributing to sustainable development through comprehensive standards that address environmental, social, and economic challenges across the entire textile supply chain.

### Role overview

- We are seeking a dynamic, well-connected Regional Representative to grow awareness, engagement, and adoption of GOTS/GRTS across North America (USA; Canada, Mexico)

### Key responsibilities

Market Engagement &amp; Promotion:

- Actively engage with textile and apparel [brands](https://global-standards.org/resources/glossary/brand "<p>A registered or unregistered trademark or other sign other than the GOTS Signs.<br>The term, in context, can also refer to an organisation that controls the design, development, and purchase of final products for sale under their own name. In that context, brands may sell to wholesalers, retailers, or directly to consumers. This does not include organisations who sell a branded intermediate product for use in further processing steps.</p>"), [retailers](https://global-standards.org/resources/glossary/retailer "<p>A business entity or an online marketplace selling directly and exclusively to an end consumer (DTC operator).</p>"), [manufacturers](https://global-standards.org/resources/glossary/manufacturer "<p>An entity in the manufacturing chain (sewing industry or so-called CMT (cut, make, trim) industry up to labelling and final packing) of GOTS Goods.</p>") and suppliers in North America to promote GOTS/GRTS
- Organise and participate in promotional/educational events (seminars, fairs, webinars).
- Provide initial consultancy and orientation for companies seeking GOTS&amp;GRTS certification.

Representation &amp; Advocacy

- Represent Global Standards at industry trade fairs, academic conferences, and governmental events.
- Liaise with policy makers, NGOs, and trade associations to advocate for organic and sustainable textiles.
- Support GOTS&amp;GRTS visibility in regional media (consumer-oriented and trade press).

Education &amp; Outreach

- Deliver lectures and workshops at universities, schools, and industry platforms.
- Raise awareness among consumers about the value and reliability of GOTS&amp;GRTS
- Collaborate with the Global Standards Marketing Unit on region-specific campaigns.

Networking &amp; Coordination

- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the textile value chain.
- Facilitate connections between certified entities and potential partners.
- Support Global Standards’ global strategy by sharing regional insights and feedback.

### Qualifications

- University degree (Bachelor/Master) in textile management, sustainability, environmental science, business administration, or related fields.
- Minimum 5–10 years of relevant experience (CSR, sustainability management, textile production, quality assurance, certification, or related).
- Strong knowledge of textile supply chains, sustainability standards, and international norms.
- Affinity with sustainable innovations and organic textiles.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent public speaking, networking, and intercultural skills.
