Application for approval as Responsible Fibre Production Standard in GRTS

GRTS requires the use of fibres that are certified to Responsible Production Standards, as defined by GRTS’s “Responsible Fibre Production Criteria”. This is akin to GOTS’s requirement for the use of fibres that are certified to Organic Standards included in IFOAM’s Family of Standards.

In the Manual for Implementation of GRTS v1, ANNEX – Responsible Fibre Standards, standards that meet the minimum criteria for responsible fibres in GRTS are listed. Inclusion in this list however does not constitute a formal agreement between Global Standards and the respective standard owners.

Responsible Production Standards must undergo formal assessment and alignment prior to their use in GRTS. Traceability of fibres from producers to first-processors is necessary to ensure the integrity of both the Responsible Production Standards and GRTS.

Criteria for recognition as Responsible Production Standards is elaborated in GRTS Section 2.1 and the respective section in the Manual for Implementation of GRTS.
